Gilbert's Progeny Found Love a Many Splendored Thing
The San Francisco Silent Film Festival featured Love (based on Tolstoy's Anna Karenina), Wings, and other classic films at the Castro Theater July 11, 1999, the day after John Gilbert's hundredth birthday. The theater was nearly packed, and, by all accounts, the event was a rousing success. After showing Love, Operations Director Stephen Salmons introduced three of Gilbert's great-grandchildren--Naomi Hart, Gideon Hart, and David Britten Prior-- to the audience, who loudly applauded them, whistles and all. Gilbert's progeny had nothing but praise for the Festival and for Love.
